To keep providing good food for generations to come, we need to build the resilience of our planet, our communities and our business. Our Plan for Better is at the heart of our strategy. It is our commitment to address the challenges we face and through collaboration, play a leading role in building a more sustainable food system.

Our Plan For Better sets out our sustainability goals across our whole business, outlining our priority areas of focus, our key commitments and our progress. We have identified areas which matter most to our stakeholders, aligning to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, so that we can make the biggest difference.

But we all need to do more and act faster. So we're taking our Plan for Better to the next level, playing a leading role in creating a more sustainable food system, to make truly ‘good food’, in all senses, available for everybody.

Wind in the sails: Eighth wind farm now helping to power Sainsbury's

  • Pines Burn Wind Farm is latest renewable site in Scotland to provide 100% of energy generated to Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s first major UK retailer to vacuum pack all lamb mince

  • Following the success of its market-leading vacuum-packed beef mince, Sainsbury’s is replacing traditional plastic tray packaging across its entire lamb mince range with a vacuum-packed alternative
  • The packaging will use a minimum of 65%* less plastic

UN Sustainable Development Goals

In 2015 the United Nations published the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - 17 ambitious goals which aim to end poverty, protect our planet and increase prosperity and peace for all.

As part of our Plan for Better we support and contribute to these goals. Whether it’s investment into our local communities, reducing emissions to tackle climate change, promoting sustainable agricultural practices in our supply chains or ensuring diversity and inclusion within our organisation. Our sustainability agenda is aligned to these goals so that we can help create a more sustainable future for all.
