We know that food waste is an important issue for our customers, so this year we funded a series of workshops across the country to help people reduce food waste in their homes.
We called it the Zero Waste Kitchen Challenge. It’s a fun and sociable way to help a group of households from across a community reduce their food waste – helping people make the most of their food by rethinking their planning, shopping, storing and cooking habits.
The challenge builds on proven behaviour change research, which demonstrates that people are more likely to make long-term changes to their daily habits if they are in mutually supportive groups.
During the challenge participants became more aware of their food habits, and are given the skills and confidence to make changes through workshops, and the sharing of tips with their group.
We have created a handbook to allow more communities to take part in the challenge. You can download the Zero Waste Kitchen Challenge handbook here.
"When I think back to how I was before getting involved with the Zero Waste Kitchen, I feel awful at the amount I used to waste. I can now judge quantities and make cheap meals that taste great. It's totally changed my relationship with food."
